Perfect Wedding Day Brows begin here…
Whatever your client’s style, follow these tips and tricks to give her the beautiful brows on her big day.
It’s wedding season, which means columns full of clients in need of perfect bridal brows for their big day. There’s never so much pressure on a therapist to get it right as when you’re getting a client ready for her wedding, so our resident brow expert Ruth Atkins shares her tips for creating beautiful bridal brows, whatever your client’s style.
First of all, Ruth says, be sure to book your bride in for a trial run, ideally at least a week before the big day. That way, you’re both happy you know what’s going on.
Not all brides jet off on their honeymoon straight after their wedding, but those that do will want something low maintenance and pool-proof to last on their luxury getaway. “It’s nice to wake up looking gorgeous in bed on the honeymoon afterwards, so I would definitely recommend a tint before the big day,” says Ruth.
Basic rules apply: all clients need a patch test before a tint, even clients having an allergen-free tint like the silver nitrate-based Marvelbrow Lash & Brow Tint, as your insurer will still recommend a patch test first.
Ruth breaks down how to get the best look for different brides.
Bride One: Classic English Rose
Brow Style: Soft and simple
Perfect the look: Fairer skins best suit an oxidised tint, Ruth says. When it comes to styling, don’t get carried away with the hottest trends. Those wedding photos will (hopefully!) still be on your bride’s mantlepiece in 40 years’ time, so stick to something classic and timeless – no boyfriend brows. “There does need to be a little bit of sculpt and structure going on, nothing too sharp; nice and soft but nothing too bushy,” Ruth suggests.
Bride Two: Bold Asian Bride
Brow Style: Strong and contoured
Perfect the look: This time go for a silver nitrate-based Marvelbrow Lash & Brow Tint, which is peroxide-free and uses plant extracts. “It gives a better skin staining, almost like a tattoo, which is great on a darker skin,” Ruth says. For Asian brides, think big, bold, contoured brows. And don’t forget to finish with the Marvelbrow Wax Pro Palette. “A wax finish will give the brows that long lasting wear, and it’ll give you that gloss, which will fit in with that event,” Ruth says.
Bride Three: Mature bride
Brow Style: Subtle and natural
Perfect the look: A more mature bride is likely to have less natural brow to work with. Ruth’s top tip is to start with Salon System RefectoCil Oxidant Creme. “It sounds quite extreme when there isn’t much hair, but if you’re using an oxidised tint the colour will grab the hair better if it’s bleached, even the fine vellus hair, so you’re going to get a better result,” she says.
After that, it could be a bit of a makeup lesson, showing your client the best ways to use brow powder or pencils to fill out thinning brows. Ruth recommends the Marvelbrow Brow Trio in Blonde, as the ashy shade works well on older caucasian skins.
